“I’m just really fucking sad.” Ronda Rousey breaks her silence since her knockout defeat to ESPN magazine in an interview with Ramona Shelburne.
The interview, released on Tuesday Dec. 8, explains the current condition Rousey is in stating that during the interview Ronda’s voice was so soft ‘you have to lean in to hear her’ and a few of her teeth still are unstable.
The damage was done by the night that changed Rousey’s career forever. Nov. 14, 2015 at UFC 193 getting knocked out by opponent Holly Holm.
“It might be three to six months before I can eat an apple, let alone take an impact,” Rousey told ESPN. If that’s the case then who knows when she will return to the Octagon.
Although the physical pain is only part of Ronda’s issues stemming from herself getting knocked out, she’s gone as far as turning off her phone completely, only spending time at a ranch with her boyfriend.
“I just feel so embarrassed. How I fought after that is such an embarrassing representation of myself. I wasn’t even fucking there.”
I’m not making an excuses for how she performed that November night, however, you have to admit, it almost looked like she was even trying midway through the fight. It wasn’t the usual knockout Queen that we know out of Ronda.
Now, it is clear these events have led her to somewhat of a mental breakdown. It’s obvious she wants to get back in the sport, it’s just a matter of how long, and getting her back into the right mental state.
There’s no question in my mind that Rousey wants to take on the challenge of fighting Holm one more time, no matter the cost, “I need to come back. I need to beat this chick. Who knows if I’m going to pop my teeth out or break my jaw or rip my lip open. I have to fucking do it.”
Matter of fact, UFC President Dana White has already confirmed the rematch.
