2017 Oscar Nominees Announced [Full List]

It’s the Super Bowl of film – the oldest entertainment award ceremony to exist: The Oscars aka the 89th Academy Awards.

Earlier this morning, the 2017 Oscar nominees were announced by the President of the Academy of Motion PIcture Arts and Sciences, Cheryl Boone Isaacs was alongside multiple previous Oscar winners and celebs.

Last year, the Oscars surrounded much controversy, if you remember, #OscarsSoWhite was trending online due to last year’s nomination list lacking people of color. It appears the Academy must’ve had their share of diversity classes, because this year, we are seeing a little bit of a different story. 6 black actors have been nominated, the most in the Academy Awards history.2017-oscar-predictions-best-actress-september-viola-davis-emma-stone-ruth-negga-amy-adams-annette-bening-meryl-streep.jpg

Viola Davis is nominated three times, and she is the first black woman ever to be able to say that.

Moonlight, a film surrounding a black gay man, received a total of 8 nominations, including Best Picture.

If the Golden Globes were any indication of this movie’s success, La la Land, featuring Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone, will be a movie we will see awarded multiple times. The drama is nominated 14 times, only two movies have been able to reach that, Titanic and All About Eve.

And of course we can’t forget about Queen Meryl Streep, although the President thinks she is overrated, the Academy awarded Streep her 20th nomination for her performance in Florence Foster Jenkins!
